The Colette Air Jordan 1 Sashiko Gals is a pair nobody will ever buy. The Japanese collective Sashiko Gals took a rare friends and family pair of the Colette Air Jordan 1 from 2017 and covered it in hand stitched denim and fabric patchwork. The result is a one of one for Sarah Andelman, co-founder of the legendary Paris store Colette.
A one of one for Sarah Andelman
The reworked pair was made for Sarah Andelman’s private collection. It is a single pair and will not be released or sold. The base shoe already was a rarity: a friends and family version of the Colette Air Jordan 1 from 2017, made for the people close to the store.
The Sashiko Gals kept the Colette details in view. The Colette logos and the “2017” on the heel stay uncovered, and a “1997” patch on the side points to the year Colette opened. Inside, the insole shows the address of the store, 213 Rue Saint-Honoré, Paris, and the clear outsoles read “Bonjour” and “Au Revoir”.
Patchwork and sashiko stitching
Most of the upper disappears under denim and fabric patches. No two patches are the same: they change in color, shape and position, so the left and right shoe do not match. Visible sashiko stitches run across the patches in red, white and blue thread.
