Release Date: November 14th, 2019
Nike’s Zoom Vapor Street Flyknit has flown somewhat under the radar since it first debuted at the tail end of 2017, but now it’s being thrust into one of the sneaker world’s brightest spotlights thanks to three collaborative Off-White makeups, two that are extremely colorful and one that’s slightly more muted. Presenting an interesting case of alteration by reversion, the shoe’s modern one-piece knit upper is swapped out for a mix of materials that appears to be more traditionally composed, encased in a textured, semi-translucent synthetic material that looks both futuristic and familiar at the same time. It’s then equipped with a large exposed foam tongue, a staple of many Virgil Abloh-designed Nike shoes. A secondary lacing system then snakes around the outer rim of the throat for even more layered detail. The branding and midsole are the most un-altered part of the design, with the former provided by a large low-slung Swoosh that drops down onto the midsole plus signature Helvetica text on the medial midfoot, while the later retains its speedy shape and elongated heel. The outsole then offers the recognizable rubber “track spikes” that debuted on the Off-White Terra Kiger 5s, applied generously on the forefoot and more sparingly on the midfoot/heel.
